Project Number 1

Summary:

Eleven products were evaluated over three trials. Initially four aqueous products removed nearly all of the coating within the 5 minutes of cleaning. The four semi aqueous products were not as effective, but three still removed over 90%. However, when these products were used on supplied parts, visual inspection revealed little change for all four aqueous cleaners. Kyzen and Florida Chemical caused a change in the appearance of the lens. The pot ash caused some of the coating to be removed. Upon review by the client, the tested products did not meet the cleaning needs. During the third trial Chem Tech Westech CT-4712 was the only product to remove the coating from the front of the lens. Kyzen Ionox FCR, Inland Tech EP 921 and Dynamold Solvents DS 104 all effected the coating on the back.

Test Objective:

Identify system that will effectively clean machine parts and products which have been contaminated with a mixture of uncured, partially cured and fully cured polysiloxane coating

Product Use:

The parts are used on a machine to hold the products while it is coated. The product is used to make eyeglasses
Trial Number Date Run Purpose Success Rating
0 08/07/2003 To identify cleaners that will be able to remove the polysiloxane based coating Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
1 08/12/2003 To evaluate successful cleaners from previous trials on supplied parts using ultrasonic energy A follow up test, usually based on company input.
2 09/02/2003 To identify additional products for the coating removal A follow up test, usually based on company input.
