Summary:

Part of a joint venture between EPA, TURI and RI DEM to reduce the use of TCE in the Providence, RI area, four trials were conducted on this client’s buffing compounds and oil. Two products, Daraclean 283 and the Polyspray Jet 790 XS, were successful on the buffing compound and oil. The next steps will be to evaluate these cleaners on supplied parts. Client has requested on-site assistance once company's reorganization is completed.

Test Objective:

To identify an alternative to TCE for removing buffing compound and oils from brass, copper and steel parts.

1 08/17/2006 To reevaluate selected products using ultrasonics and higher temperatures. A follow up test, usually based on company input.
2 08/22/2006 To evaluate the top two products on the supplied oil using immersion cleaning. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
3 08/22/2006 To evaluate products for oil removing using ultrasonic cleaning. A follow up test, usually based on company input.
