Summary: The asphalt was removed using a soy-based ester.

Test Objective: To visibly remove all asphalt from copper/aluminum core windings.

Problems with Current Method: No system in place

Purpose of Cleaning: To recover recyclable scrap metals

Product Use: Prior to cleaning the unit was used for lamp ballast

Project Number 2



Summary: Second case used a heated mildly acidic cleaner, Alconox Citranox, along with cold tap water.

Test Objective: Find a non-toxic solvent to dissolve the glue that holds the face plate of a CRT to the yoke portion

Problems with Current Method: Toxic chemicals used to dissolve glue/lead.

Purpose of Cleaning: Purpose is to find a method to separate the leaded CRT glass from the unleaded glass.

Product Use: Computer monitor

2 10/19/98 Further evaluation to separate the leaded glass from the unleaded glass with out using Nitric Acid A follow up test, usually based on company input. 
3 10/22/98 Glass was cut along the desired location in order to separate the leaded frit and the front unleaded section. A follow up test, usually based on company input. 
4 10/26/98 One screen was soaked in only hot water with no cutting, the other three were used in the hot acidic Citrinox A follow up test, usually based on company input.
