Summary: Part of a joint venture between EPA, TURI and RI DEM to reduce the use of TCE in the Providence, RI area, two trials were conducted on this client’s oil. Five of the six products, Brulin Corporation Aquavantage 1400, International Products Corp Surface Cleanse 930, Warren Chemical Company Sea Wash Blue, Oakite Products Inproclean 3800, US Polychem Corporation Polyspray Jet 790 XS, were found to work on the supplied oil using ultrasonic energy. With the products successful on the oil, the next step will be to evaluate these cleaners on supplied additional parts. Client would like on-site assistance based on testing results.

Test Objective: To identify an alternative to TCE for removing oil from brass jewelry pieces.

Problems with Current Method: Use TCE

Purpose of Cleaning: To prepare parts for plating.
