Trial Report



Trial Number 1

(Client Number 27, Project Number 2)

Trial Purpose: To evaluate products using longer manual cleaning times.

Date Run: 10/16/09

Experiment Procedure:
Nine products from the previous trials were selected. All were used at room temperature. Five alkaline aqueous cleaners were diluted to 5% using DI water in 300 ml beakers. Four cleaner was used at full strength. Twenty-four preweighed glass coupons were coated with wax manually without heat gun and allowed to dry for 24 hours at room temperature. The contaminated coupons were weighed again to determine the amount of soil added.

Each cleaner tested with three coupons. Three coupons were placed into a Gardner Straight Line Washability unit. A Kimberly Clark Reinforced paper towel was attached to the cleaning sled and soaked with 5-7 sprays of cleaning solutions. Each coupon was sprayed 3 times with the same cleaning solution. First, Coupon was cleaned for 15 cycles two times; after coupon was cleaned for 15 cycles, experimenter changed the paper towel and soaked with 5 spray of same cleaning solution. At the end of the cleaning, coupons were dried at room temperature naturally. Final weights were recorded and efficiencies were calculated and recorded.

Trial Results
Two products were effective in removing the wax with a manual wiping action. The table lists the amount of soil initially added and the amount
remaining after cleaning and the product efficiency for each coupon cleaned.

A follow up test, usually based on company input.

Conclusion
Two products (shopmaster RC, Solsafe 245) removed more than 80% of the wax from aluminum coupon. The added cleaning time did not improve cleaning performance. The top four products from both trials will be tested on the next supplied oil under similar conditions.
