Trial Number 5

Trial Purpose:

Additional analysis of degreased parts

Date Run:

08/19/1996

Trial Results:

I just finished evaluating the degreased parts that you sent to me. The results as shown on the following page are consistent with each other. All degreased parts came out with a higher reading than the dirty parts, and the variance of most of the readings was significantly reduced.
One interesting note about the data is the clean readings on the impeller plates. Although the readings increased by nearly 200 units, the variance almost doubled. When observing these parts under a microscope at 100x magnification, there seemed to be areas on the degreased plates that had a white solid film. This film could be easily wiped off with an alcohol wipe, and after
wiping, the impeller plates gave out very high readings (around 900).
Another observation is that although the 11 Fr. Stylet wires obtained higher readings, there was still quite a bit of contamination remaining. After taking readings, I cleaned the wires off with an alcohol wipe which revealed quite a bit of black contaminant.

Success Rating:

A cleanliness study, addressing only various analytical techniques.

Conclusion:

I checked all other degreased parts for contamination using the alcohol wipe test, but I did not notice any contamination. If you have any questions about these results please don't hesitate to contact me.
