Project Number 1

Summary:

After initial testing, a couple of aqueous cleaners were very effective in removing the buffing compound from the brass substrate through immersion cleaning. At a 10% dilution, four products were successful in removing most of the buffing compound.

Test Objective:

To eliminate use of degreaser (TCE)

Product Use:

Trays, punch bowls, tea pots
Trial Number Date Run Purpose Success Rating
0 03/26/1999 To develop a new cleaning system to replace vapor degreasing w/ Trichloroethylene Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
1 03/29/1999 To evaluate the effectiveness of four cleaners at an increased concentrations in the removal of the buffing compound. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
2 03/29/1999 To determine if ultrasonic energy would increase the cleaning efficiency of the 5% solutions. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
3 03/29/1999 To clean client supplied parts using the two tested aqueous cleaners. Results suggest a scale-up feasible match for cleaning chemistry and equipment. Pilot plant study with actual parts recommended.
4 05/06/1999 To further evaluate cleaning capabilities of two cleaners from previous trials on new and old supplied parts. A follow up test, usually based on company input.
