Project Number 1

Summary:

Three trials were conducted for first project. The first trial looked at nine products were selected from the lab's databases based on supplied information. The four successful products will used in the second and third trials. All products were able to remove all of the ink in less than 1 minute during the manual wipe cleaning. Loctite 7360 was the fastest, removing the ink within 17 seconds. None of the products dissolved the ink from the lenses within the 5 minute soak cleaning.

Test Objective:

To find an acetone substitute for removing Essilor yellow ink

Project Number 2

Summary:

Four products were selected based on success from previous project. The two most successful cleaners, Bio T Max and 7360 were used in an immersion test. The Bio T Max was more successful than the Opti Clear when using a combination of soaking and rubbing.

Project Number 3

Summary:

Using SSL's Simple Solutions database, two lists of products were generated based on client input. The first are products that have been successfully used to remove both oils and lubricants using ultrasonic cleaning. The second list contains products that meet client's required needs based on from vendor supplied information.

Test Objective:

Product search for oil, lubricant, adhesive removal from polycarbonate wafers.

Project Number 4

Summary:

Four of the seven products lowered the contact angle by more than 10 degrees. The lenses cleaned with the current solvent had lower average contact angle measurements then the alternative products. However, the readings for the current solvent were more inconsistent than the alternative products. The current solvent readings ranged from 20 to 63. After analysis was completed it was noted that some of the lenses had water spots on the back side of lens. These could be eliminated with better rinsing drying. All lenses will be sent back to client for analysis.

To improve surface cleanliness prior to priming and coating.
