Two glass bottles per cleaner were prepared with 3/4 cup of Fresh Step 24/7 Performance kitty litter. An extra bottle was made as the control. Fresh cat urine was placed inside the bottles, closed and shaken for ten seconds to immerse the kitty litter in cat urine. This was repeated until all the bottles had a very pungent smell of cat urine in each bottle. The bottles were closed and placed aside for five days. After five days, the bottles were rated on initial odor based off of a Odor scale:
Odor Scale
1) No Smell
2) Light Cat Urine Smell
3) Somewhat smells of Cat Urine
4) Mostly Smelling of Cat Urine
5) Pungent Cat Urine smell
Based off of the worse rated bottle, that was picked as the control for the test. The tester then picked two unknown bottles for each cleaner.
Two sprays per bottle of the Clorox Fresh Step Cat Litter Box Cleaner was placed in two bottles and preweighed one gram per bottle of the Fresh Step Carpet Powder Blender (.5 grams per spray) was placed into two bottles. The tester waited five minutes before conducting another round of odor ratings. This process was repeated until six sprays (or three grams) total in each bottle was added.
The Fresh Step Carpet Powder Blender worked within the first gram added to the bottles. Although both products removed the cat urine odor by six sprays (3 grams), the Fresh Step Carpet Powder Blender is a more efficient product.
