Trial #0
To identify alternative lacquer remover for methylene chloride
Three cleaners were selected from the lab's database based on past testing. Each product was used at full strength and applied using a paint brush. The sample was divided into thirds. Each coating remover was allowed to remain on the surface for 30 minutes. At the end of the 30 minutes, the surface was visually observed. The coatings were removed using a plastic scraper within 10 minutes. Final surface analysis was performed to determine which products were successful. The wood was received coated with Sherwin Williams Nitrocellulose lacquer from the client.
All three products caused the coating to crystallize after the initial 30 minutes. The Take Off Green and Citristrip removed the coating with little trouble whereas SI#4 required more effort to clean the coating.
All three products were successful in removing the lacquer finish from the cherry wood sample provided by the client. In addition to the client specific trial, additional reports from similar cleaning testing have been sent.
