Microphotography

One part from each group was selected to photographed using a micro-camera. Two different locations on each part were chosen. The pictures were then compared visually to determine which cleaning method appeared to work the best.
The cleaning methods were:
Group #1 Alcohol
Group #2 Passivated
Group #3 Plasma.
Part selection was based on similarity to parts in the other groups in order to obtain meaningful results.
SUBSTRATE MATERIAL: Stainless Steel 455
CONTAMINANTS: unknown

From the initial photograph of each group, visual inspection led to the belief that group number was the cleanest followed by group three and lastly by group one. After reviewing the second set of pictures, the same observations were made. To further clarify the superior cleaning method, a photograph was taken of the parts from group two and three. The two parts were place side-by-side. This picture also showed that group two looked cleaner than number three.
See picture sets A, B and C.

From the pictures taken, group number two appeared to be the cleanest looking parts.
