Project #1
To determine if there is a better cleaning agent than HCl, nitric acid, or solvents currently used
10/23/1997
stainless steel, laboratory glass ware
Laboratory-scale production of ultra pure chemicals for semi conductors and solar-cell industry.
70% glass, 30% stainless steel, some have Teflon valves
distillation of metal organics
distillation of metal organics
75-100
Acetone, hexanes, isopropanol, water
Nitric acid, Hydrochloric acid, Sodium Hydroxide
Done entirely by hand. Use of concentrated acids are undesirable
Remove vacuum grease and reactor residues.
1-several days
Aluminum oxides are the most difficult to remove from both stainless steel and glass. Organic residues from cleaning would be problematic.
With the clients, two methods were demonstrated for cleaning, Spray wash for the grease and ultrsonics for the oxides.
