To test the efficacy of two Wipex products in removing artificial sebum from various substrates in comparison to benchmark products.
Prior to testing, the provided lulu lemon yoga mat and the rubber floor tiles were cut into 5 in X 2.5 in coupons to fit the configuration of the Straight Line Washability unit (SLW) that was used to apply manual wiping during the cleaning process. Three coupons of each substrate were assigned to each cleaning product for a total of 12 coupons per cleaning product. Each coupon was weighed using a gravimetric balance and had their initial weight recorded.
A vial of synthetic sebum was heated to about 65C in a warm water bath. To soil the coupons, a pea size of synthetic sebum was applied to the top center of each coupon using a swab. In order to spread a realistically thin layer of sebum evenly on each coupon, a 7 ml coating rod was used to spread the sebum across the length of the coupon equating to a wet film thickness of 178 microns. Excess sebum was removed via the coating rod. After soiling, each coupon was re weighed and had their dirty weights recorded.
Three coupons of the same substrate were placed in the SLW. The one wipe of the corresponding cleaning product was attached to the sled of the SLW. The coupons were then subjected to 20 cycles of manual wiping via the sled of the SLW. This process was repeated until all coupons had been cleaned using the correct cleaning products. The coupons were then allowed to air dry for 2 hours before being weighed and having their final weights recorded.

A single wipe of the Wipex Lavender, Wipex Lemongrass, and Zogics Eco Pro Disinfecting were damp to the touch when initially removed from packaging. A Single wipe of the Zogics Antibacterial was soaking wet when initially removed from packaging.
There was significant sebum staining remaining on the lulu lemon yoga mat coupons and vinyl coupons after cleaning. This staining was consistent across all of the tested cleaning products. There was also some less significant sebum staining remaining on the rubber floor mat coupons after cleaning that was consistent across all of the tested cleaning products.
Overall, the Wipex Lavender wipes exhibited the most cleaning power out of the four cleaning products tested based on having the greatest AVG overall efficacy percentage of 43.86%. The Wipex Lavender wipes can be considered an effective cleaner in removing synthetic sebum from stainless steel as the cleaning of this substrate resulted in >75% soil reduction.
Both Wipex products had better results for stainless steel than both benchmark products.
The Zogics Pro Disinfecting wipes showed the highest efficacy in the cleaning of the lululemon yoga mat coupons specifically.
No relation
