Four soils typically found in dry cleaning were applied to three fabric types (cotton, cotton/polyester blend, nylon) and then cleaned using immersion and manual cleaning.

Methyl 408 and Ethyl 408 are excellent at removing stains from nylon fabric. Both chemicals made the stains worse with grass-stained cotton. Methyl 408 removed most of the grass and ink stains from polyester. Overall, these chemicals are effective at nylon and polyester dry cleaning when immersed. Adding agitation and scrubbing may improve the dry-cleaning quality of these chemicals.
