Trial Number 4

Trial Purpose:

Perform a second brass compatibility test

Date Run:

01/12/1996

Experiment Procedure:

The purpose of this trial is to perform a brass compatibility test with the WR Grace Daraclean 211, Calgon Geo-Guard #2215 and the U.S. Polychem Polyspray Jet #790.
2"x2" Brass Coupons were immersed for up to two hours from temperatures ranging from ambient to 170 F. The coupons were then rinsed and hung up to air dry. After drying, the coupons were visually inspected for any etching or discolorization.

Trial Results:

A 20% solution of Daraclean 211 and Geo-Guard 2215 showed no etching or discolorization when immersed for 2 hours at 170 F.
The Polyspray Jet #790 showed etching at concentrations of 4% and higher when immersed for 30 min at ambient temperature. A 2% solution of the Polyspray Jet showed no etching when immersed for 30 min at 160 F.

Success Rating:

Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.

Conclusion:

The Daraclean 211 and Geo-Guard 2215 will be used in future pressure spray tests with brass and silver parts for Silversmith.  The Polyspray Jet will not be considered for any non-ferrous metal testing in the future.
