Trial Number 6

Trial Purpose:

To find other alternative cleaners for the cleaning of phenolic resin.

Date Run:

04/02/1999

Experiment Procedure:

Five products were selected for the cleaning trial based on vendor information. Twenty-five milliliters of each cleaner were poured into a 30 mL vial. The contaminant was placed into each beaker. Each vial was covered with the supplied cap and shaken for 30 seconds. Observations were recorded. The shaking and observation cycle was repeated.
SUBSTRATE MATERIAL: None
CONTAMINANTS: Phenolic based Resin

Trial Results:

After 30 minutes of soaking, only one product showed signs of dissolving the resin.  Table 1 lists the observations made during the trial.

Success Rating:

Preliminary compatibility tests on substrate coupons encouraging for at least one cleaning chemistry. More in-depth laboratory testing necessary.

Conclusion:

Savogran HD 34 was the only solution tested to have any effect on the resin.  With added temperature, the dissolving of the resin may be enhanced.  Heated cleaning will be the next test conducted.
