Test Objective:Identify aqueous cleaning solutions that will remove Castrol 10W-40 from metal tape. Identify appropriate evaluation methods/equipment.

Summary:Four aqueous based products were found to be successful in removing the drawing compound using ultrasonics at 25 kHz. Contact angle and OSEE proved to be useful analytical methods for this process.
Test Objective:Identify a suitable cleaning chemistry for removal of lubricant from silver wire.

Project Number 3
Summary:Three trials conducted resulted in the following, cleaning for 8 seconds yielded the highest number of effective products. Only one product did not show improvement with the additional cleaning.
Test Objective:To identify cleaner that is effective in removing lubricant Copperskin 510 from silver wire

Project Number 4
Summary:Three trials were conducted using ultrasonic energy. Four of six products were marginally successful in two, 2 second cleanings. Three of these were more successful at 8 seconds and higher concentrations. A final trial found Inproclean 3800 to be the only product that showed improvements at 20% concentration. The other two products, EXP 1400 and Surface Cleanse, worked better at the 10% concentration, removing over 93% of the lubricant.

Project Number 5
Summary:Thirteen supplied parts were analyzed using a Photo Emission Tech. Inc Surface Quality Monitor SQM 100. Five readings were made on one side from each of the 13 parts submitted for analysis. OSEE was shown to be an effective analysis method in comparing the various cleanliness of the 13 supplied parts.
