Trial Number 0

Trial Purpose:

Test on 4 cleaner's effects on supplied felt

Date Run:

06/14/1995

Experiment Procedure:

Today, two different aqueous cleaners were tested for Paper Mill. Testing was performed exactly as Paper Mill’s test on June 12th. Two of the wire samples supplied by Paper Mill were cleaned first. Both the Grace Daraclean 294xx and the Brulin 815 GD were diluted to 12%. Cleaning was done in a 100 ml beaker for 5 minutes at 130 F. The samples were then rinsed under warm tap water for a minute.

Trial Results:

The Brulin product did an excellent job on removing the stickies from the wire (better than the Betz 2278 and just as good as the T Square HTF 50). The Daraclean 294xx performed better than the Betz 2278 but not nearly as good as the HTF 50 or the 815 GD. A quick test was done to see all four cleaner's effects on the felt samples that Paper Mill supplied. All cleaners were run at 12% by volume concentration at 130o F for fifteen minutes. A longer cleaning time was used due to the fact that the felt would be tougher to clean and a difference in cleaner effectiveness would be easier to notice with the increase in cleaning time. The T Square HTF 50 performed the best with the Brulin 815 GD a very close second. The Betz 2278 was the third best with the Daraclean 294xx dead last.

Success Rating:

Preliminary compatibility tests on substrate coupons encouraging for at least one cleaning chemistry. More in-depth laboratory testing necessary.

Conclusion:

Further testing will be performed at a later date.  This includes testing a Brulin product that is specifically formulated in removing inks and adhesives.  We are also interested in testing out some of T square's aqueous products and see how they perform as compared to their terpene product.
