Trial Number 3

Trial Purpose:

To evaluate high pressure spray wash for paint removal

Date Run:

08/22/2001

Experiment Procedure:

A Honda 5.5 High Pressure (~2200 psi) system was used to clean several painted brass parts.  The dirty parts were placed in a basket and cleaned with the hand held wand for about 10-15 minutes.  Parts were inspected visually for cleanliness and brightness.

Trial Results:

The high pressure system was moderately successful in removing most of the paint from the brass parts.  Parts were did not become brightened during the process, but they did not get any darker either.

Success Rating:

Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.

Conclusion:

Pressure washing with water may be an option if parts are briefly soaked in one of the effective cleaners from previous trials.  Brightening would still be required for some of the older pieces.
