Project Number 1

Summary:

Testing method was developed at the TURI Lab that provided quantitative soil removal rates were higher than for water alone.

Test Objective:

Here's is what the Safer Choice folks are looking for in the way of testing to show dirt removal: While we don’t have a formal test method to recommend for this product type, we would want to see the following elements: Compare product’s performance against water as a control. Report quantitative rather than qualitative (e.g., visual examination of the produce after product use) results. Address any performance claims made on the label, or that you would like to add to the label (e.g., removal of waxes, pesticides, dirt, oil, etc.). Methods should mirror product use instructions and any materials/residues used in the test should be representative of materials/residues customers would expect to encounter. Results should demonstrate >80% cleaning efficacy. We would be happy to work with you to review proposed methods before the test is conducted.

Trial Number Date Run Purpose Success Rating
0 07/16/2020 To develop cleaning protocol that can quantitatively show soil remove rates. Preliminary compatibility tests on substrate coupons encouraging for at least one cleaning chemistry. More in-depth laboratory testing necessary.
1 07/16/2020 To evaluate cleaning method using food based substrate Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
2 07/30/2020 To conduct performance testing on supplied product and compare with water and related industry product. Results suggest a scale-up feasible match for cleaning chemistry and equipment. Pilot plant study with actual parts recommended.
3 09/22/2020 To test the effectiveness of the cleaner Fit Organic using a food based substrate. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
