Trial Number 3

Trial Purpose:

To evaluate successful cleaners on supplied part.

Date Run:

05/17/2004

Experiment Procedure:

Seven products were selected based on the previous three trials. Each product was used at full strength in a 250 ml beaker at room temperature. Presoiled 5 inch sections of metal spring coated with Chevron Knit Oil ISO 32, dirt and fiber particles were cleaned with each by spraying the product on the wire for 15 seconds, letting the solution soak for 30 seconds. The section was then wiped with a white paper towel for another 15 seconds. At the end of the cleaning (~ 1 minute), the wire was then dried using an air knife for 30 seconds. The paper towels that were used to wipe the sections were compared to each other and ranked to see which cleaning product removed the most soil.

Trial Results:

Most of the products removed a moderate amount of the soil under the conditions in the laboratory. Soy Gold 2000 had the most amount of soil on the paper towel, followed by 278 Supersolv. Three products performed about the same, based on soil removal on the paper towel. These products were Solsafe 245, DS 108 and D Greeze 500 LO. Wiping results can be seen in Figures 1-7.

Success Rating:

A follow up test, usually based on company input.

Conclusion:

The cleaned wire has been returned for inspection by client. Wire is marked into 9 sections. The sections cleaned start with Soy Gold 2000 and proceed in the same order listed in the summary section. The section following the last cleaner was not cleaned. The section after this larger piece was cleaned using water.
