Project Number 1

Summary:

Part of a joint venture between EPA, TURI and RI DEM to reduce the use of TCE in the Providence, RI area, one trial was conducted on this client’s buffing compound. Three products, Matchless Metal Polish Co MC 132, US Polychem Corporation Polyspray Jet 790 XS, Alconox Inc Detergent 8, were found to work on the supplied buffing compound. Cleaning with ultrasonic energy will increase the effectiveness of the products especially when dealing with intricate parts. With the products successful on the buffing compound, the next step will be to evaluate these cleaners on supplied parts at or after workshop.

Test Objective:

To replace TCE for cleaning buffing compound from brass buckles and knobs.
