Project Number 1

Summary:

Several biobased alternatives have been tested for floor stripping, all purpose cleaning, odor control and metal brightening.

Test Objective:

To identify and compare bio-based products to current products being used for janitorial applications

Product Use:

Hospital surfaces
Trial Number Date Run Purpose Success Rating
0 10/07/2004 To evaluate biobased floor strippers. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
1 10/21/2004 To evaluate alternative metal polishes Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
2 10/25/2004 To evaluate more biobased products for floor stripping. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
3 10/26/2004 To evaluate biobased products for cleaning toilet bowls Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
4 10/28/2004 To evaluate biobased alternatives for all purpose cleaning. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.

6 01/13/2005 To evaluate bio-based floor strippers. A follow up test, usually based on company input.
7 01/13/2005 To evaluate bio-based floor strippers on ceramic tiles. A follow up test, usually based on company input.
8 01/18/2005 To evaluate bio-based floor strippers on plastic composite tiles A follow up test, usually based on company input.
9 01/18/2005 To evaluate bio-based floor strippers on plastic composite tiles and ceramic tiles. A follow up test, usually based on company input.
10 01/20/2005 To identify additional floor strippers using a preliminary screening method Preliminary compatibility tests on substrate coupons encouraging for at least one cleaning chemistry. More in-depth laboratory testing necessary.
11 01/27/2005 To follow up on the results of the previous experiment A follow up test, usually based on company input.
12 01/20/2005 To examine more floor strippers and follow up on the results of the previous experiment A follow up test, usually based on company input.

Project Number 2

Summary:

Two phases were conducted for evaluation biobased alternatives. The first found a couple of floor finish strippers that were safer and as effective. The second phase identified many products for hard surface cleaning. These products were as effective and several were less expensive as the current product.

Test Objective:

To identify, evaluate and integrate biobased floor strippers at facility.
Trial Number Date Run Purpose Success Rating
0 05/29/2007 To conduct a screening of in-house biobased products for removing floor coating/wax. Preliminary compatibility tests on substrate coupons encouraging for at least one cleaning chemistry. More in-depth laboratory testing necessary.
1 06/12/2007 To evaluate the eight products identified in the screening test using mechanical agitation. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
2 06/28/2007 To screen a second batch of potential floor stripping products. Preliminary compatibility tests on substrate coupons encouraging for at least one cleaning chemistry. More in-depth laboratory testing necessary.
3 06/28/2007 To evaluate second set of effectively screened alternative floor strippers. Results successful using TACT (time, agitation, concentration, and temperature, as well as rinsing and drying) and/or other cleaning chemistries examined.
4 08/08/2007 To evaluate successful products on larger tiles following end users procedure for stripping. A follow up test, usually based on company input.
5 08/20/2007 To evaluate products using client supplied conditions for products at a longer time interval. Results suggest a scale-up feasible match for cleaning chemistry and equipment. Pilot plant study with actual parts recommended.
6 08/20/2007 To evaluate floor strippers at higher concentration levels. Results suggest a scale-up feasible match for cleaning chemistry and equipment. Pilot plant study with actual parts recommended.
